A reason why citizens had the right to bear arms. The National Guard abrogated this reason.

Look at the patriotic AR-15 that these Congressional pencil dicks brought to the office.

I thought guns were not allowed in government buildings? If those two dipshits can do it, why can't I? Would either of those two sound the alarm if they saw me holding a gun in the capitol building?

From the article,
Though illegal for the general public to bring a gun into the U.S. Capitol, it’s not for Buck because he is a member of Congress, authorities say.
Lt. Kimberly Schneider, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Capitol Police, said members of Congress “may maintain firearms within the confines of their office.” Not only that, Schneider said, members “and any employee or agent of any Member of Congress may transport” weapons within the Capitol grounds as long as the “firearms are unloaded and securely wrapped.”
I don't know if you've read about this, but Ted Cruz is insisting that soldiers should be allowed to concealed carry on military bases. What could go wrong?

I can't disagree with that. We are constantly bombarded with "You're not safe any more!" You're not safe from the terrorists. You're not safe from black or brown people. Or, if you're black or brown, you're not safe from white people and especially the cops. If you're a liberal, you're not safe from the 'baggers. If you're a 'bagger, you're not safe from the gummint. We get it from politicians of all stripes and from the media who all feel they need to sensationalize the sensational to generate votes or campaign donations or eyeballs.

A thing that gives me a little hope and which also makes me wonder about the Pew study is that, while the number of guns in private hands has increased dramatically, the number of people who own guns has decreased. In other words, fewer people think they need or want the damn things but the gun nuts are stocking up.
