The per capita number of Americans killed in the Green Zone was probably less than the worse of America's inner cities. Washington DC's mayhem peaked in the '90's with 479 murders one year in a population of about 600,000. It's about 100/yr now.
Check out these numbers for Detroit in 2013. I doubt the Green Zone had remotely as much violence inside its walls.
Murder and non-negligent manslaughter rate per 100,000 people: 45
Total murders and non-negligent manslaughters: 316
Violent crime rate per 100,000 people: 2,072
Total violent crimes: 14,504
Population: 699,889
