Ed, are you totally oblivious to the reality of where this is heading? Would you honestly like to see him as president?

I don't see him for what he is.... got it.
Come on John an opposing view or opinion, outside of the sciences is not inherently your domain.
You know I respect you, Fin, Rob... way smart folks. I love Dave, the man is a genius of expression. You are all different than I which is why I enjoy you all so. I don't have the book knowledge you guys have and my life experiences are different but I have never been at a loss to out think anybody. Plus, like you (plural) I thirst for knowledge. Probably why my nickname as an adult has been The Professor. I have semi regularly had people accuse me of being clairvoyant because I have been so eerily insightful. I go for a haircut people what to hear my opinion ... blah blah blah... but it's true
With that qualifier I'll say, you need to open your closed minds.
1) The sky is not falling. It's nothing but a passing summer storm.
2) It's not inherently bad that a candidate entertains as he campaigns. His goal is to gather votes and people are more likely to vote for who they like and you says that they will provide their wants. Every politician does this. 3) I have no issue with those that will not accept a politician that will not conform to their want of what a politician is. That is a large part of the knee jerk rejection of many of the more cerebral. But then they become what they dislike, zealots of opposition.
4) No acceptable, reasoned case has been made for anyone to reject Trump on hysteria... it is what you are advocating. In the past my open mind has been won over by you. Posts as I am receiving from you now are emotional, nothing I can recalculate on. What was it, gay marriage you changed my mind ? Yes, I am sure it was you who made a reasoned case that I could accept.
5) To your questions, am I oblivious? Doubt it. Could be. You may be. Hence the banter. I know I am not the ultimate prognosticator. With all respect, I don't think you are either.
6) Would I like to see him as President? I don't know. I do know that I am not scared of that possibility. I do know I don't think Hillary or Bernie are electable and have said that since summer. I do know Rafael the Canadian is much more scary a proposition than is Trump. no one speaks to this. It's actually frustrating that no one cares. I do know Rubio is not ready... Kasich? Maybe.
If you want to make a case for what to you is the obvious peril of Trump, I'll intently and open mindedly consider it. As of now, I see the anti Trump as hysteria.
