The rest of the typically blue states on the east and west coast add another 71 votes combined.

All tolled, that means that the Dems start each Presidential Election with 194 Electoral College votes "in the bank". Michigan is 16 electoral votes and is a swing state, but typically swings to the left.

Therefore, it's not a stretch to say that in most election years, the Dems are at the starting gate with somewhere between 194 and 210 electoral college votes. Would you really want to give that up?

The little states are over represented in the US House of Representatives and in the Presidential Electoral College.
