Pootin was probably counting on a Desert Storm Shock & Awe type campaign. Mass 190K troops on the border and scare the Ukrainians into caving in. Not quite working that way. Probably didn't count on so much domestic protest either. He was probably counting on a quick victory and then just sit back and tell the world "deal with it". If the Ukrainians can sandbag the Russians enough they'll make Pootin's forces pay a lot higher price than they figured on.
