Yes, I agree.... The physical punishment was excessive.

But, I just have to wonder if this was the first time the student was defiant.

And what should an adult do if the student refuses to leave the room?

....and then there are those folks that think if students feared the paddle, they would respect the teachers more...

But then again..... If it were MY child.....

I don't know who was right or who was wrong..... But what I do know is that usually there is more than one side to the story.
