Never did, never will. The Bullmoose Party & Teddy Roosevelt probably cost Taft the 1912 election and gave it to Wilson. Perot hurt Bush Senior the 1992 election and Nader (plus a little old fashioned theft) cost Gore in 2000.

Neither of the big parties likes these third party efforts. It throws a monkey wrench into the "machinery".
