Well Merry,
If you do not believe in KILLING, you can register as a Conscientious Objector, and many not be drafted, when and if a draft is in effect, and you may not be drafted, or you mat be trained as a medic, there to help wounded soldiers.
But it is everyones duty to protect our country, not just the few.
So obviously, you, do not comprehend.
Sorry Bill

The Roman Catholic church has been neither annointed nor outlawed. No religious group has been told they cannot attend church.
Since English is my mother tongue let me explain - "free exercise" means simply that they are free to practice their religion. It does not mean they are free to shove it down everyone else's throat.

No Merry,
They can not interfear with Our rights, but "the free excercise", that they can practice their beliefs as prescribed by their religion. Now if you help someone commit a mortal sin, one that will kill your soul if committed, the church's edicts or laws, forbid them to help anyone of Gods children, no matter what their beliefs are, commit the sin !
Their are American Indians that are allowed by law to smoke and take Peyote, in accordance with their religious customs or laws. While this is not allowed in normal society, it is part of their Free Exercise of Their Religion.
Wake up before there is no one left to speak, or defend YOU.

Well Sorry Bill perhaps you will tell us just who these brave young (and some not so young) people are defending us from?
And just perhaps you can explain to we mere mortals why the suicide rate is so high among those having served in Iraq.
Maybe you can explain to the over 5000 families why there is an empty chair at the dining table because a group of men (and I use the word loosely) decided to send them off to a foreign land that was no threat to us.
No doubt you will have some glib answer that is about as meaningless as the rest of your posts.

Merry,
There are times when I couldn't agree with you more, and the pointless deaths of our men are one of them.
But the Constitution is the Constitution, and as D-Ray pointed out so well, are viewed with human eyes, even with polarized glasses.
But ounce You surrender one "Right" to the government, for what ever reason, you open Pandora's box, allowing the continued erosion of Your rights.
I personally couldn't care less about church laws or practices, but this is just the beginning of the erosion that will surely continue. Hell, BO can now have anyone killed if he perceives them a terrorist, but a terrorist to who ? Barry Soetoro ?
As Ben Franklin said so well: Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Excuse me but did you actually read my first post to which you responded, or this last one? I only ask because neither response had any relation to what I wrote.
I think I'll go into my workshop and argue with the sweep generator, it will probably make more sense than this.

Sorry Merry,
But due to that being a rhetorical question, I didn't believe that you wanted an answer, OUR GOVERNMENT of course, some with the blessing of our Constitution and some without it's blessings. Depending if Congress gave it's blessing.
And as for the suicide rate being so high among those having served in Iraq, I know and understand that those that received horrific injuries are among the largest groups to commit suicide. Vietnam was no different. And the others may not be able to adjust to society after all that they did and saw in war. I know how hard it is to return home to people you knew and liked that now call you a murder and baby killer. There were times that I had wished that I had never came home. And still some stigma exists 39 years later.
ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL, OTHERS GAVE MORE THAN ANYONE COULD BEAR !

There are no end if limits to my pursuit of happiness. If I want to smoke a joint, they won't allow that. Sex with 13 year old girls? Nope. Driving my car flat out on the highway? So all of that should be ok?

And, come to think of it, all of those things are legal in other countries, but not the land of liberty.

Only in the sense that funding is being used as the means to enforce one's will over others.
We've discussed constitutional rights, what they actually mean, piss on 'em anyway, stupid people ain't got no rights, if I had to pay for your shit, they you're gonna pay for my shit, its' none of my business, it's everybody's business, the slippery slope, and pretty much everything else in between.
The only thing which hasn't been discussed is how much this actually cost. No one cares about the money.
