You'll have to look to China for new coal fired plants, there are none under construction in the US.
The invisible hand is real. If solar was profitable it wouldn't need subsides. I've been watching (I have an all electric house). Once every business has panels on the roof you know it makes financial sense (it varies by region). Batteries are needed and still expensive too, though getting better.
Also cheer for nuclear, maybe fusion finally, waiting (and waiting and waiting) for ITER. We can mine the moon for fuel.

"MAGA Braintrust" is an oxymoron. They don't think ahead, only think about how to line their pockets.

Mine the moon for fuel?
Such a silly idea.

If you think of it in terms of humans mining the moon for fuel in much the same way as fleas "mine" a dog for food, it pretty much makes sense.

Much, MUCH better to keep heavy industry on planet. And right now, alternates won't supply all the power we need - we need real (base load) power plants.
Helium-3 is considered a very good possible fusion fuel. It is in the moons regolith (dust/dirt) and can be sifted out. It is indeed just a talking point (possibly for now). We can stick with Deuterium-Tritium for Fusion fuel (for now)

A news article on WaPo today, Biden's climate initiatives preferably helped Red states with subsidies and now the Big beautiful Billionaires Bill is gutting all of them. Chances are that they do not have a clue of what is happening and for that matter very few know what is in this bill. It's the MAGA leaders who are lining their pocketbooks.
I probably could be minting money if only I knew when Tesla stocks were going up and down during the Trump Musk bromance.
Biden’s climate law boosted red states. Their lawmakers are now gutting it.
Quote:
In a December speech on his economic legacy, President Joe Biden predicted that clean energy investments stemming from his signature climate law were “so deeply rooted in the nation” that it would be “politically costly and economically unsound” for the incoming Trump administration to undo them.
With Republicans on the verge of passing President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and immigration bill, that prediction increasingly appears politically unsound — and is shaping up to be economically costly for hundreds of businesses that could lose billions of dollars in promised funding.

Ugly apparently for MAGAts is Beautiful.

Pete may be a fan of REM of the Man on the Moon fame.

LOL
The back of 'Volunteers' too - 'Neil Armstrong was the last man on the moon'
I'm a science and tech buff
It's closer than we think - we are more technologically advanced than most grasp and racing forward at an increasing pace. Look how fast cell phones changed. It's the only way to save the planet. Even 'green' energy is industrial (you have to make the stuff, transport it, service it). Bringing industry back to the US means mining, processing, smelting, forging - all 'dirty'. Everything is heat pollution. Also there is no lack of resources in space.

Only five countrries have successfully landed on the moon, just USA with a crewed landing with Neil Armstrong; USA, Soviet Union, China, India and Japan in that order.
Ever wonder what it will take to successfully land crew on the surface of the moon reliably and repeatedly, then transport them along with heavy digging gear and then explore the planet for precious minerals?
This will take decades and which country has or is willing to spend the money? Better to wait for Elon the XMan to work his magic. He may even come up with a robotaxi for joyrides to the moon.
But he will have to wait for another POTUS, DJT ain't gonna give him fund his companies anymore.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemis_program - 2027, but it's the government, so... 2035?
Yeah, the now-hated Musk's starship is exactly what's needed. He succeeded with the Falcons in lowering cost per pound into orbit by orders of magnitude. The starship (which is a genuine marvel) will do that again. I'll say it again, stupid rich people (both of them!)
Robotaxi to the moon LOL! Seriously, regardless of political affiliation, for the good of humanity, wish the starship to succeed. Musk should stick to what he's good at.
Sidenote, I'm waiting for another party, but sure as heck not his!
