Some people may say these are the same. I see a huge gap between the two.

Just sayin, I love the media. Good thing we have them.
Good observation. That headline left me puzzled after I read the artical.

Nah, one shouldn't. Generally preachers are stupid creatures that have only a vague understanding of anything. They are also not impartial. They want to get their hands on your tithes, votes, children, cocaine, whatever.

Most scientists are just stating what they find. Sure, there is money in it for them, but more often than not there isn't a great deal of money. Most of them can't get away with just shooting shit out there to convince people that they are right, because they've got millions of other scientists around the world shooting holes in or verifying their hypothesis.

In short, when a scientist makes a claim it's usually backed by research, experiment and other scientists.
When a clergy-jerk makes a statement it can't be verified, is usually ridiculous and has an ulterior motive. I wouldn't trust a preacher to speak on the colour of shit.

Oh, come on now, that is a little harsh isn't it. Who was it that stated the purple teletubbie was in fact an attempt to undermine family values as it was really just a hidden affirmation that homosexuality was okay??

He certainly had some bearing in what he was talking about. At least he was correct in one area. There was a purple teletubbie.

Actually the theory put forth in his book (Chariots of the Gods) is more plausible than those espoused in the Bible, IMHO. That, however, is what one might call "Damning with faint praise."

Klingons or Vulcans?

I'm gonna take issue with Deczor, for painting with far too broad a brush. In many denominations, particularly the more traditional ones, the ministers have doctoral level training. Moreover, as part of a church, they live up to the title and minister to the needs of people who come into contact with the church.

There are some who preach with out training, and that can be dangerous, and a great source of misinformation. Televangelists are even worse. I doubt many have actual degrees from a school of divinity. If one's only exposure to preachers is televangelists or those who seek publicity, or get engaged in trying to set a political agenda, I can see a reason for a negative perception of preachers. I don't believe, however, that the hucksters are an accurate representation of the entire profession.

Regards,

D-Ray

I painted with too broad a brush as well. I do stand by my statements about he tv/political evangelistic minister hypocrites however.
My experience is very similiar to D-ray, many olf the minister I have known are good people trying their best to meet the needs of their followers.
Heck, my best friend of 30 years is a director of youth ministers for several chuches and is studing to be a pastor now.

Although I think you went a tad far with this post, (As I know a couple pastors who are decent folks.), I understand what you're saying and found the post amusing.

Someone once told me;
"They will poo-poo the word of people who study empirical evidence, but wouldn't dream of questioning the word of a guy who listens to the advice of flaming shrubbery."
