I'll stipulate that both parties concoct issues aimed to benefit themselves at elections. Who would those leaders be, Pete? How did they "whip up hatred" for him?

Even if the "Leaders of the Left" did - which they didn't - their target would have been one man and would have been in response to his deeds. What we're seeing now is the leaders of the Right, both elected and self-appointed, stirring up hatred for roughly 1/4 of the world population because of the actions of a few hundred lunatics.
