Votes.

To people like you and me, Dave, this is about as disgusting a display of humanity at its worst as you can imagine. The people keeping it in the news are counting on people like us becoming so turned off that we stay home in droves come next November.

Conversely, they're counting on the people who buy into this grotesque mindless bigotry and hatred flooding the polls. So, look for a lot of ballot initiatives designed to appeal to these trogs like making it illegal to build a mosque within X miles of a national monument or a Christian church or maybe anti-hijab laws, anything to get the haters to turn out.

Wasn't Timothy McVeigh a Christian?

I wonder how close a church is to the former Federal Building in OKC? I mean, all those radical religious-types doing whatever they can to sow the seeds of discourse so close to their "victory..."

Sigh...

Precisely.

There is a reason why I ask these questions.

We wish someone would sow the seeds of discourse. We need people to actually be talking about how to deal with differences among people. Unfortunately, Gingrich, Palin and their ilk want to sow seeds of discord, and profit from hatred based on falsehoods.

This gets said a lot but it's probably not accurate to say that McVeigh was motivated by whatever religious beliefs he held. Rather, the OKC bombing was a political act, intended to provoke an overreaction from government which in turn would cause insurrection.

His inspiration for this was "The Turner Diaries", a white supremacist novel which basically contained the blueprint for this rebellion, including the bombing. He was also motivated by the siege at the Branch Davidian complex near Waco but his concern wasn't one of religious freedom but government repression and gun rights. For the same reason the Ruby Ridge incident figured in his justifications for his actions.

Word inversion.

Sometimes that occurs when you're trying to throw together some satire.

The point, still, stands: I wonder why nobody complained?
