We don't, there is a mosque not 15 miles from my home. A muslim woman got her driver's license wearing a bourka here in Maryland on religious grounds. The ironic part is back where she came from she would never be allowed to drive a car. That she is an accident looking for a place to happen never seems to have occured to anyone.

i've wondered that for years. haven't found any answer yet.
maybe this thread.

re building the center near ground zero; as this country is 'supposed' to 'embrace' freedom of religion, i'd let it be built.

edit-just found drays link to the article on moslem/muslem. thanks.

Pastor Wane Sapp is aptly named, belongs to the same branch as that wingnut who disrupts military funerals.

Here is an apt reply to Palin, Gingrich and other opportunists who would have people forget the First Amendment. The right wing continues to capitalize on the events of 9/11.

I heard on the radio at lunchtime that the NYC’s Landmarks Preservation Commission voted 9 to 0 against granting historic protection to the building where the $100 million center would be built, thereby clearing its last hurdle.

Let's see now. The city's Landmarks Preservation Commission and Mayor both support construction of the center but local GOP aspirants to Federal office oppose it. Hmmm. Doesn't this fly in the face of federalism/local governance that the GOP is always preaching? I guess it's OK to abandon one's "conservative principles" when it comes to demonizing some group for political gain or kowtowing to the xenophobes in their own party.

Talking about "conservative principles" and the "GOP" in the same sentence is an oxymoron
