That position would maybe have been better served with a minority conservative if they even are conservative, some who have done extraordinary things in poor neighborhood schools with almost 100% graduation rates.

Of course, transferring that to government and past the teachers union entrenchments is probably impossible anyway.

Most children still get taught through public education. The opposition to Devos is the belief she does not really believe in it.

Equality in public education, plus supporting mentoring, is how to handle this. Not a costly for-profit fallout festival.

These are the two principles upon which Amway was built.

Anyone who still thinks this is about helping the children is only fooling themselves.
So no amount of contrary information will sway them.
This has all to do with breaking unions and indoctrinating the young along with keeping kids separate from the lower classes and different groups from theirs. Plus add the chance to making a killing with federal funds with very little oversight.

Now, there is a quote from somebody who is obviously completely indoctrinated talking about somebody else indoctrinating.

Just have locals who have tried to argue their weak argument. When all I see is, they are wanting to keep away from other social economic or ethnic groups. The discussion always devolves to the teachers unions and pay, benefits and how they get the summers off. Can't get fired!

We have been trying to get a consolidated school for thirty years in my county. Three high schools now when one centralized would save money and provide more opportunities. Two graduate less the forty a year and the big school two hundred. But sports always wins. Parents would rather have their kids being a big fish in a small pond then collage prepared. So when hearing this charter school will solve public schools and save money my eyes start to roll.

Just why should my property taxes should be used for their religious schools? You know the whole Church and State separation thing.

Why should my property taxes go to pay for somebody's kids when I never had any ?

I don't particularly care how they do it as long as it works.

It works fine now in some areas and in some areas it doesn't work at all with 70% drop out rates.

Yet, try to change anything in the bad areas and see how far you get.

Many of these schools independent of the public system are working great in the otherwise problem areas.

The left fights expanding that tooth and nail. Makes no sense to me.

When you were a kid your single neighbors paid for you. Your attitude reflects just simple selfishness and ignorance about nurturing a great society.

People who say shit like that deserve to be mugged by a gang of young kids that grew up to be thugs because they couldn't get a decent education in an underfunded public school system.

Add to that the fact that when you get old and frail you are going to be totally dependent on the younger generation that you do not want to educate.

Sure you may have a lot of money, but that money is worthless unless there are younger people out there doing the work necessary to provide the goods and services you need to survive and are willing to exchange them for that money. If they say to you "Sorry gramps, but I only grew enough chow for me, so I'm keeping it all and you can keep your money" then you will be fucked.
