Betsy Devos secretary of education

Okay folks,
Devo's father founded Amway - a very corupt MLM
Devo's Brother founded blackwater
She has a bachelors in Business administration

She has participated as board member on several Education foundations/organizations. Hopefully she has some knowledge and can do some good.

Here is hoping we don't have another disaster in the works

Your response to Devos should not be based on her father's and brother's businesses.

It should be based on criteria such as her experience in education, her philosophical attitude to the subject.

Idealistically yes. Realistically no. I can't imagine she is 180 degrees from her family. I also did some research on her. She does have an interested in education, but from where I sit, it is a biased agenda rather than an educated knowledge.

Look at just how well the schools are doing in Michigan under her influence.

I suppose so.

We give JFK a pass in spite of the rumors that his father made his money as a bootlegger.

However, I consider bootlegging to be a far more honorable profession than that of an Amway huckster.

My first and only experience with the Amway scam was back in High School. On the way out of the parking lot after school one day a buddy of mine that was riding in the passenger seat saw a poster on a telephone pole advertising summer jobs. So I stopped and he got out and read it and got the address of the place. He said it was an advertisement for jobs at the "Jimenez Lumberyard". Neither one of us had ever heard of it, but what the hey, a summer job at a lumber yard sounded really macho and cool to us. So we went to the address and it was some shabby office building and when we went in there was this dude in a cheap suit, so we told him we were there to apply for the jobs.

So this dude starts in with this pitch about how we can make a shitload of money this summer going door to door selling this Amway shit to our neighbors and friend's moms. And during the whole presentation my buddy and I are exchanging WTF!? looks. Even to a couple of High School kids it ws obvious that this was some kind of bullshit scam.

I don't remember what excuse we used to get the fuck out of there but when we did I said to my buddy, "I thought you said this was for a job at a lumber yard?" And he said "That's what the poster said".

So we drove back to where the poster was and got out and read it and all it said was "Jimenez Productions". And my buddy says "But I was sure it said Lumber Yard!." I don't know how he read that into it the first time, must have been wishful thinking.

I am not a supporter of Miss Devos. I was just responding to the thrust of your initial post.

Wasn't Amway some sort of a pyramid scheme?
