Correct my history if I'm wrong.

Seems like Andrew Jackson met Thomas Hart Benton years after Benton shot Jackson during a duel. The slug had finally worked it's way to the surface where Jackson could extract it.

Jackson handed the slug to Benton and said, "I believe this is yours."

Benton replied, "Keep it, you earned it."

What a class act by both parties.

My grandad, Bill Wolfe, was a kid, 17, 18, 19, & was working in a railroad station in Piney Flats, TN, which is as small as it sounds. A guy came in one day to rob him. Bill was sittin' behind the desk, gingerly opened the desk drawer, eased out the Derringer, not knowing if it was loaded or not, & plugs Mr Bad Guy in the gut. He then shot/grazed Bill across the back of the neck as Bill dove under the desk. Anyhow, the Bad Guy lived for a few days, made peace w/the Lord & all, told 'em that he was also diggin' a tunnel to the bank, & then he Assumed Room Temperature. Bill got a gold pocketwatch & a nice letter from Southern Railway for "Upholding their Proprty at the Risk of his Life, April, 1896" which I have framed. I have the Derringer & the watch, too. I got 2 or 3 rounds of 41 RF at a gun show a few years back, & the Derringer works fine, thank you...The guy Bill shot I THINK was the scion of a locally prominent family, but was what they called back then a "Ne'er-Do-Well", & it was sort of decided that this was about the best thing that could have happened to him...Bill died in '29, my mom was only 3 or so when he died, all she really remembered about him was his funeral.

I have a 1st Lieutenant's civil war sword around here somewhere, maybe I'l settle for that. At close to 30" long if memory serves it should be a good persuader.

I don't buy that for one second; from all the NRA literature that I have read and obtained both on my own and from friends who are members it's evident that they do nothing more than lobby for money and power. The 2nd Amendment does not exist because of the NRA, the NRA exists because of the 2nd Amendment and they make unencumbered use of the 1st Amendment (which I don't necessarily always interpret as an "individual's right" to keep and bear arms...the language, as written is arguably ambiguous). Anyway, I shoot, don't own a gun at the moment and don't need to...yet. If, however, placed in a situation, I know what to do.

I have no problem with anyone who owns a gun and uses and stores it safely and legally. I do not, however, agree that private citizens need assault or repeating arms for "hunting".

I keep forgetting that the 2nd Amendment is a "duck hunting" right.

I stand corrected.

Why don't you just buy something like a used Mossberg 20 ga pump. Cheap as dirt, dependable, could use it to keep the rabbits out of your garden. For defense, pull the plug out and stuff the magazine with turkey loads.

Besides, nothing says "it's time to leave" better than the sound of someone racking the action on a pump. Probably looking a about 200 bucks, including the ammo.
