So at this point, the cop is the ultimate arbiter and is expected to use his knowledge and training to diffuse the standoff and escort the student out. For some inexplicable reason, he decided to take extreme physical action. He could have easily held her in a bear hug from behind even if she was indeed pummeling him with her fists. So this take down desk and all was strictly an action taken by the cop and very little to do with school procedures or the level of misconduct by the offending student.
The cop was fired by his boss almost immediately and the case is closed. I expect that the school board will settle her lawsuit out of court and she will feel vindicated yet not learn anything from this experience. As to the rest of the student body, no idea what this experience will teach them.

I don't think anybody is arguing that Fields made a mistake that he has already paid for with the loss of his job. Even though this kid is a self-indulgent little miscreant, everybody involved is going to get sued which is the reason why western civilization would have been well advised to take Shakespeare's advice about lawyers a long time ago.
I suspect the kid will learn nothing unless there are some extended family members somewhere who won't let her get away with it, even though she's generated a big payday for the family.
And...it's good to hear another person on this forum who isn't trying to blame the school personnel for any of this. They acted exactly as they are responsible to act in such circumstances.
That said...physically resist a cop in the course of his/her duties and getting dumped out of a chair for it seems considerably less than an atrocity to me.
