I'm suspicious about the cop's motivation for stopping her in the first place. Failure to signal a lane change? Seriously? I looked at some of that video of the stop. I sure as Hell ain't gonna waste 52 minutes of my life watching it all, but what I saw was a very lightly traveled roadway. Very little traffic. I don't know about you, but I don't signal for a lane change if there are no other cars near me. I mean what's the point?
Now I did hear her say she changed lanes to get out of his way. So it appears that he was following her. So I guess you could say there was at last one other car in the vicinity. The cop's.
Now again, who likes being followed by a cop? No one except maybe another cop. So it's understandable that she might have been nervous and in her desire to get him off her ass, changed lanes without signaling. Now in that situation I would signal. But that's because I'm 68 years old and have been around the block enough times to know to make damn sure not to give one of those motherfuckers an excuse to pull me over. She was only 28, so I can understand her making that mistake.
But now on to my real point. Why was he following her in the first place? Here's where I have more suspicions. She made another mistake by making some anti-cop rants on facebook. Showing your ass on facebook is a no no.
I suspect that this may have attracted the attention of law enforcement and that this cop knew exactly who he was following and was doing so with the intent of finding an excuse to pull her over and extracting some payback.
