Last Thursday I got a call from a buddy who began with: "Guess who was at the terrorist attack?" He's an apolitical atheist and who hates the Federal Government's buttinskiness. An engineering buddy of his from Austin (moderate liberal atheist) came up to attend the event and he went along for an interesting/fun ride. On the way in a CNN girl tried to interview my friend, but quickly lost interest since he had no crazy rightness to share. The same thing happened to his buddy with another TV news reporter. They were outside when the attack occurred which resulted in them being taken to the police station where each was interviewed twice by the FBI.

He doesn't sound apolitical at all but I suppose what you really mean is that he hates the principle political parties.
Also, I have to wonder why an "apolitical" person and a "liberal" (who drove up all the way from Austin) would attend such an event in the first place. Of course, you describe them both as atheists. Are they militant atheists who get off seeing a religion attacked and ridiculed? Seems pretty likely to me.

You need to reacquaint yourself with the meaning of apolitical.
In a way you could say my buddy's militant about being alive.
Infer and judge away as you must.

Thanks for the instruction but it's not really necessary, at least for me.
From Webster's:
Quote:
|
1: having no interest or involvement in political affairs; also: having an aversion to politics or political affairs. 2: having no political significance
|
Nobody who "hates the Federal Government's buttinskiness" is apathetic about politics or without antipathy toward the politics that underly government policies and actions. Libertarianism is political. Anarchism is political. But perhaps your friend is anti-political.

Whatever that means.

In other words, you have no counter-argument.

You are correct in that my friend is nonpartisan (not the best word choice in my OP which an editor may have caught), which leaves your original judgmental inference clueless. The only reason he went, or knew anything about the event, was because his Austin buddy wanted to go to the event and was visiting as a result. My friend lives close to the venue and is the least apathetic person I know.
What am I suppose to be countering? My OP is not augmentative... You appear to be arguing about someone you don't even know.

I'm arguing with your characterization of your friend as being apolitical while, at the same time, "hating" government and your description of his friend, who drove 200 miles to attend a hate fest, as being a "liberal".
Got it now?

Where did I say my friend hated government?
I don't know the Austin engineer and trust my friend's precise description.
You like assuming a lot from a little. Why do you want to argue about people you don't even know?
