As for cops I don't trust them as far as I can throw 1958 Buick Roadmaster.

The ability to trace a firearm has improved since the 1970's. However there are many firearm transactions where the chain is broken. How in the hell do you trace a firearm that is sold on a cash and carry basis as many still are?
