As to the content of his op-ed piece, it generally corresponds to what my views of the Ferguson events have been all along (i.e., Officer Wilson's actions were defensible, but the rioting in the streets (based upon the false "hands-up, don't shoot meme) as well as the police department's behavior vis-a-vis the black community were not)).

For me, this doesn't change much. Perhaps Mike Brown was an inappropriate symbol but the cause he came to represent is a just one and the town of Ferguson is most certainly an appropriate symbol of the problems the demonstrators seek to address.

This is one mans opinion.
I have no doubt the Police doctored and/or with held evidence.
As for the hands up witness, he claims there was only one.
There were more.

"He had his f---ing hands up," one man says in the footage, as he holds his hands above his head.

To be fair, the 'Hands Up, Don't Shoot' meme grew out of an eyewitness account of the shooting. There was a white out of town construction worker who said that Mike Brown had his hands up when shot. Correct or not, apparently the DOJ disagreed in their report.
If one good thing came out of this, it's shown that race relations in America have a long, long way to go.
edit - Beat me to it Tom. Thanks for the link.

Check the link that I posted above out.
It's got video of one of the witnesses raising his hands as he says "He had his fucking hands up!".
Then, if you remember, at first the Chief of Police said that Wilson had no knowledge of the Convenience store robbery when he stopped Brown. Then, several days later that narrative changed. That raises a great big red flag for me.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Ferguson Police Department created a toxic environment of policing by intimidation and that this contributed greatly to the incident between Wilson and Brown escalating the way it did.

I (we) also have no way of knowing if contact was initiated civilly or confrontationally disrespectful before the altercation, not that might have changed the subject's willingness to discuss recent activities.
