Here's what people like me favor. Handguns are outlawed. Automatic and semi-automatic "assault" style short/medium barreled rifles are outlawed. Possession of ammunition for these are outlawed. Gas operated, recoil operated, blowback operated semi-automatic long barreled hunting rifles and shotgun shotguns are outlawed. Get caught with any of it...first offense a year in prison, second offence 10 years in prison, third offense 30 years in prison...for the weapon possession or the ammunition possession.

What you can own are long barreled hunting rifles and shotguns. Single shot or bolt action rifles, maximum 3 shot clip. No lever action big load rifles...none. Side by side or single barrel breech loading long barreled shotguns. Over/under breech loaded long barrel shotguns. Single barrel long barreled pump action shotshotguns, maximum load, 3. Heavily licenced. Felon...no. Mental heath diagnosis...no. Dui record...no. Domestic violence history including history of any order of protection being granted...no fucking way.

That's what will appease a person like me.
Why? You can still shoot up a school or a cinema with a shotgun. Not exactly slow reloading a double barrel.

Also there are people that do hunt with handguns (obviously the big ones). They are not just there for self defense.

Nickel and diming, this is exactly what you are doing, you are just more extreme. Guns are still legal, you've just banned the ones you think are dangerous. The exact policy I'm referring too. But you can slaughter scores of people with the guns that are still legal if you felt like it.

Now I agree that felons and people with mental health issues should not have access (People with a DUI? Why?). But I entirely disagree with banning types of guns (Except automatic weapons).

Gun rampages usually happen the same way... Someone goes in and shoots up a school. This should be examined. Maybe people under the age of 21 should not be allowed access to guns (we don't let them drink).
