An officer's job, especially if compelled to use deadly force, is not to "provide aid" to those whom force was used against. An officer's job is to provide public safety by securing the scene.

Once the scene is secure -- like, say, by removing uber emotional family to the back of a squad car -- then an officer's mind can turn to aid.
