We can all wish it were not so, but it seems to be (at least for the moment).

They never finish the sentence to include "for the salary offered" when claiming the inability to find qualified personal.

If that's the case then lower the standards for blacks.

The negative effects of that are far less than the negative effects of having virtually all white Police patrolling black neighborhoods.

Perhaps, but it's hard to demand better background checks, while at the same time advocating for lower standards.

That is a far worse cluster than departments not matching society. Now you have internal conflict, too...

Because you'll have woefully underqualified officers. The reason you have standards is to avoid that.

If you lower the standard you lessen the whole.

Having a 95% white police force in a 75% black community is what is a horrid idea.

White Police officers are not getting the job done in poor black neighborhoods.

When you can't get the job done, out the door you go. That's the way the world works.

Scoring a few points higher on a written exam isn't going to make up for the fact that the community they police does not trust them.
