I'm not offended by your position but it should bear note that any incident, even regionally nearby, is going to be handled differently than Ferguson -- even if it goes against accepted protocols -- merely to differentiate itself from the current, manufactured, public relations fiasco.

That doesn't mean things are being done in any way correctly, merely appropriately if public relations is your primary concern.

I would not call the current situation manufactured, mishandled perhaps. Of course to me, PR and minimizing collateral damage trumps rules and regulations. We need to be flexible to make allowances for specific situations.

In this instance considering the public backlash, the LE should have been more forthcoming rather than stonewalling. Transferring the command and control of Ferguson security to Missouri HP and later adding National Guard patrols by the governor, questioned the credibility of the Police Dept. in the eyes of the public.
