Bibi's recent adventure succeeded in strengthening Hamas and weakening Abbas (Fatah), the only person with whom he could have negotiated (who had just recently subjugated Hamas before Bibi fucked things up). Make no mistake, Israel has no interest in doing anything other than taking complete control of any relatively open land in the West Bank leaving only urbanized ghettos in places like Ramallah and Hebron (and Gaza, of course).

Probably not. I think this is more likely a case of Hamas over-reaching.
Abbas himself has come under a torrent of Internet abuse from the ranks of his own constituency since his Jeddah speech. Amira Hass quoted in Haaretz a Fatah member who is a resident of a refugee camp and a former prisoner as saying that only 10 percent of Palestinians now support the aging president. There has even been reports that his wife and grandchildren have fled Ramallah for Amman.

To me, this adds up to Hamas jumping into what they see as a void in leadership. And its gonna get them whacked hard if they keep it up.

True, but Bibi contributed greatly to a void in leadership. He completely overreacted to the murder of the three teenage settlers (who should not have settled anywhere remotely near the wasp nest of Hebron), arresting 300-400 people and demolishing a bunch of homes.
Some sort of fight was inevitable when Bibi announced new settlements just as Kerry first arrived there months ago to start peace talks. He deliberately poisoned the well from the get-go. Peace to him means imprisoning 4 million people.

Egypt is throwing Hamas to the wolves big time:
"For its part, Egypt has made it clear it won’t open the border unless the Gaza side is run by Hamas’ rival, President Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinian Authority."

As long as Hamas has Abbas tied up like a puppet on a string, what point is there in negotiating with the Palstinian Authority? Hell, if Israel takes out Hamas, and Abbas is serious about peace talks, it might hasten the peace process.
