That's because it is also known as the "Reddest of the Red States". So, despite what you see right in front of you, Mississippi is doing great. Only Dem infested shitholes like Detroit have problems. At least that's what the rightwing media memo says.

Detroit is the Benghazi of domestic economics when it comes to the conservative mindset. It's a squirrel. A distractor. Point out what a hell hole of poverty and racial hatred Mississippi is and they scream "DETROIT!".

The point that is overlooked is that Detroit and Mississippi have the same problem; Insatiably greedy and selfish rich people who leave a scorched earth behind them if they don't get their way. The only difference is they stayed in Mississippi and managed to oppress everyone there to their satisfaction. The peasants in Detroit successfully rebelled for a while, before the bastards threw a tantrum and laid them all off. Two different results, stemming from the same root cause, neither of them good for anyone but the handful at the top.

Always remember, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin were all once Republican strongholds, before people tired of their slave driving bullshit that is. Mississippi was Democratic until the Democratic Party turned on them in the 1960s. Then they became Republicans.....but make no mistakes, Dem or Rep, with those guys it's just a name, their ideology hasn't changed since the 1850s. They just go with whoever seems more tolerant of their crap at the moment, for the sake of getting their votes.

Atwater knew this and exploited it. So did Nixon.

And, here we are.

Ohio's very red statewise anyway. The Dems do have Cleveland Youngstown and Toledo, but I'm not sure you'll want to brag about that

More on Mayfield's suicide here. What I find troubling is the unhinged response tweeted out from another staffer in McDaniel's campaign.

Who abandoned those cities, Pete? And did they simply move to other places in the redder Ohio, or are they in someplace like, oh, Mississippi or some other Deep South latter day plantation, perhaps? Maybe the wonderful, job creating Christian folk sought out some desperate 3rd world dump full of starving people to exploit until they start expecting to live off of their wages? Oh, my, we can't have that, now can we? Nope. That's when it's time to move on again, because we must retain our rightful "blessings"........................

The love of money is the root of all evil, my friend.

What would you expect from a shithead who preys on the weak and vulnerable?

Yeah, well, he was a Republican, so let's just not talk about that. If we do, then people might realize this "good Christian family man" stuff is nothing but a smoke screen and that just wouldn't be good. M'kay, children?

And, no, I'm not suggesting that Christianity or even Capitalism are inherently evil. Quite the contrary. I'm saying they have both been co-opted by evil, entirely self-serving people.

Once it ceases to serve the needs of the community, what good is it anymore?

Cochran was a senator there for 40 years. It is said he brought 3X dollars from Washington while sending back X.

Nothing I have read indicated that he tried to change the usual...like
emphasing technical education to get some high tech industry started.

The post you quoted wasn't about Cochran. It was a poisoned arrow aimed at the heart of a movement.
