Would support the 'makes no big difference' position.
My belief is that the main thing that causes murders is the presence of people who want to murder. They often give their victims scant opportunity for self defense, so defensive carry is generally not decisive.

Easy access to firearms to those who want to murder is certainly a contributing factor.

Support for my premise is at your fingertips. As I said, there are studies supporting my view, and those supporting yours. If you want to run through it all again, have at it. I'll not be participating, as I find it boring, as I already stated.
I cite a study, you discredit the source as biased.
You cite a study, I do the same.
You rant about over-zealous gun nuts, I rant about busy bodies threatening rights.
It's not constructive, it's not entertaining, it's boring as fuck.
Ok?

You assume a lot. I am not an anti-gun zealot or a carry-advocating busy-body.
My view is that the gun debate is pretty much irrelevant, if we are actually interested in crime control, in reducing the chance of violent crime in our lives. I don't think concealed-carry laws are likely to reduce crime, and I don't think the legal availability of guns has much to do with the high levels of crime when and where they are high.

What really happened in regards to the gun laws in Chicago is that they had strict laws on the books which were stuck down by a fed judge. So the city council passed another ordinance to restrict gun sales.

As an example, this thread could have been titled "Chicago Loses Battle to
Ban Guns".

I would submit that one thing causing a lot of gun deaths is plain incompetence. As long as you do not have a record, and are not obviously a mental case you can buy a gun, even if you have trouble finding your arse with both hands and a flashlight.

Those are failed countries for other reasons.
It would be reasonable if you compare areas in the US.
