What came around in Iraq, came around because of our arrogant interference in the government of Iraq...the ridiculous Rumsfeld/Old Man Bush support for Saddam Hussain because he was at war with the same Iran we fucked up 30 years earlier. What we're dealing with in Iraq is exactly what we deserve. We're dealing with exactly what we deserve in Cuba, Guatemala, El Salvador, Vietnam, and everywhere else where we decided our interests trump sovereignty, independence and self-determination. We get exactly what we deserve all over the world. What came around on 9/11, came around because this country played cold war politics with the lives of Jews and Arabs in the middle east for 50 years. It came around because we just had to have the upper hand on the Russians. We didn't give a shit in Stalin's hat for any Jews or Arabs...we still don't give a shit for any Jews or Arabs.

I don't believe innocents anywhere deserve to be incinerated...but what goes around comes around whell. Nobody has incinerated more innocent people in the history of the world than this country has. If you think that's cheering, you can think whatever you like. It makes no fucking difference to me.
That 'we' of yours sure does get all over everything. Did you fuck with anyone in any of those places? Did I? But if 'we' meet a Lou's for a pizza some time and somebody blows the joint up, will 'we' deserve it? I know you said innocents don't deserve it--but 'we' do? Who is this 'we'?

Now I do get what you mean here. Right on!

A self-righteous citizenry who blindly accepts American interventionism as patriotism? "American Exceptionalism" is bullshit.

So it's not the issues, it's the chance to bash another poster?

Do what Tom said.

Substituting 'citizenship' for 'we' doesn't fix things for me. This is still a matter of saying 300 million people are 'one moral actor.' Which I don't see as making much sense.

I'm fine with saying the ignorant patriots are dummies, and should be blamed some. Just don't identify the whole shebang as them.

That merely leaves the folks who vote for and actively support them...

Personally, if you're not actively voting against their agenda and doing everything you can to educate those troglodytic dolts who do, I believe you're part of the "we" and get what you have coming.

Is that everyone? No.

But it's more than you're excusing, IMO.

Milbank nails it in an oped at the Post.

"Obama’s opponents came up with more links than a sausage factory. People in both instances had signed nondisclosure agreements! In both cases, there were contradictory accounts of what happened! Fox’s Sean Hannity found a tie between the two in his contention that “we’re being lied to an awful lot.”
Former congressman Allen West (R-Fla.) found the two instances similar because “there is a lot to this whole episode — like Benghazi — that we may never know.”
Luckily for West, knowledge is not a requirement. He has already declared l’affaire Bergdahl an impeachable offense."

Think about all this, and read some HL Mencken quotes on democracy, and you'll start wondering if China and Singapore aren't onto a better idea...

... a government based upon shifting and irrational opinion must keep it within bounds or run a constant risk of disaster.

Even though I (sort of) understand what you're saying and agree with the following points;

1). To the right wing propaganda machine this is way more about Obama than it is Bergdahl.

2). That the military may have gone after him at the first clear opportunity anyways. Especially IF he was committing treason and giving the enemy useful information. (Which I doubt.)

Your style of delivery of these points, I really don't care much for, Ike.

"...fucking rag on a stick shithole in the desert where his unit was located...", really?

It may be a shithole, but that outpost is made up of of people who depended on him for mutual protection. He clearly violated that trust. It wasn't the outpost he abandoned, it was the people.
