The firearms industry has a problem in that their products, if taken care of in a reasonable manner, last indefinitely. In addition they don't become obsolete very fast either. For example, a 1911 Pistol, which is basically unchanged since John Browning first designed it over 100 years ago, is still more than adequate for self defense today.

So I guess what they have to do is create some kind of artificial demand so that they can keep selling in volume.
