If you like air rifles, check out the new Gamo line. Incredibly accurate.

More affordable than the FWB no-doubt. Also check Crosman and Daisy for accurate match air rifles that won't bust the budget, like the $300 entry level Daisy Avanti 853 match; http://www.airguns.net/reviews_daisy853.php

I don't understand spending the money on an AR. If I'm going to spend a grand plus on a firearm I want to at least be able to hunt with it. That one is also absolutely fugly.

Could they pass a law prohibiting weapon modifications?

Other than full-auto and muzzle noise suppressor mods I don't think so.
High capacity/rapid-fire tactical weaponry makes little sense for the general public but fixing that would require a really good time machine. We are stuck pretty much forever with sharing the sidewalk with some of the best-armed nut cases on the planet, thank you NRA.

I don't remember exactly how much he paid for it, but my neighbor just got one and it was far, far less than a grand.

AR-15? Good luck finding cheap ammo to run thru it.
