I guess I don't understand why it's a problem to turn over minor alien criminals to the Fed for immigration enforcement, should the Feds be interested in undertaking deportation proceedings. Am I missing something?
While I don't agree with hassling Hispanics in any way (like Arpaio in AZ, for example), I don't understand why, when an illegal alien interacts with the criminal justice system and has his illegal immigration status confirmed, his case shouldn't be adjudicated.

I do not think the police want to be hassled with transporting every encounter with a possible undocumented alien to the Feds. They have other fish to fry.

Come to think of it, I doubt the Feds want to deal with anyone other than serious criminals anyway. Both state and Federal systems are clogged as it is.

I forget the new name but Wackenhut private prisons are heavily involved with INS for incarceration of illegals.

California is not nearly as conscious or upset about illegal immigration as it was 20 years ago. The Pete Wilson era is long gone, and Arizona is basically going to be blue in a few years because of Anne Brewer imitating Pete Wilson.
Even if you make three figures out here life is expensive. Most of us wonder how the undocumented are even able to survive. I am not angry on the issue.
It is not going to go away anytime soon. Besides the population here in Socal is mostly Latino (to my eyes anyway.....it seems that way to me when I go out)...no point in alienating a significant voter population.

It's harvest time where I live. No one complains about immigrants, legal or illegal, during harvest time.

So you just open the country to anyone who can cross the border.
Castro was real smart: He put his criminals and social rejects on the
boats from Mariel to Miami.

Actually the border is not open here. It is difficult to get across. I have never been to New York City so I tend not to talk about it since I do not know what it is like there.
Latinos are everyone's friends and co-workers here. We do want an open border but on the other hand we do not want our state government to profile legal citizen's either.

Naw, I got it but then when Patty and I recently drove through Kevin McCarthy's district up your way, we were amazed at the crazy signs posted up and down Hwy. 99 by the 'Baggers.
