But we've been getting drunk together for a good 35 yrs, and as much as I love him, at times he bores me to tears. In a way, it's like getting drunk by yourself while looking in a mirror.
I find it more entertaining to get drunk with my liberal buddies. Maybe that's why I waste so much time on this forum.
As a rule, we agree on what we want from society, and life. But we do parry over the best means to get from point A to point B. And as a rule, we reach for a consensus, as opposed to getting all pissed off at one another. Not that that doesn't happen at times. But I find these conversations to be far more interesting than those with my old buddy with whom we pretty much agree on everything. We are basically using one another as sounding boards...with predictable results.
Now please don't take my following statements as a personal insult, as they are not meant to be. These are only my observations, and as such, are certainly open for debate.
But, IMHO, you have already made you mind up, and should anyone disagree with you, you not only dismiss them out of hand, but become angry. Hell, I was pretty much the same way until I turned 50, and realized that I was nobody or nothing, and I really didn't know shit from beans. And getting all bent out of shape about is was the dumbest thing I could do. Anger is a self inflicted wound.
There's a lot to be said for being nobody or nothing, and dumber than a day old pig. You're not expected to hold they keys to the universe.
What's say we get along. Sometimes we agree, sometimes not.
But it beats the shit out of going through life with a bug up your ass. It's a fools burden, and one which can be left beside the road at any time. To everyone's benefit.
Now I'm 100% correct on this one, and one of the few statements from which I refuse to back down from.
And allow me to wish you an enjoyable evening, Kind Sir. Whether it is or not is entirely in your hands. I was miserable for 50 yrs, and most of it was due to what I allowed to clutter my mind.

you have the monopoly on miserable here Chas I do not. I must be getting to you since you always respond to me.....perhaps I am dumber than a day old pig. You are just like me except I do not have to be so cryptic. If I am dumber than a day old pig you sure must be enjoying my posts. The Tea Party is not going to fool this day old pig. Besides, who was in charge on Animal Farm?

We've located the perfect seedy fishing camp, owned by an old couple who don't give a fuck about what you do...much less demanding that we keep the little dog on a leash...like it was some damned animal. Guess they've been around people long enough to tell the difference.
Five days of drinking beer and thinking clear...and not catching fish. And the weather should be perfect.
I'm kind of looking forward to it. And if the world goes to shit without my input...so what. Nobody wants to listen to me anyway.

thanks Bob...but I have been a bit harsh with Chas and the Tea Party criticisms...
I will be fine it looks like they will pay me and everyone else. To be honest I have a wonderful job you would not believe how smooth my work is....it is not too hard to show up and I was always pretty sure I would get paid.
I see my Federal Job as a priviledge given to me by the tax payer, and to be frank Chas and yourself and everyone else here make my life way too easy by paying your taxes that keep me afloat
I do get upset that forces beyond my control can threaten my future but then I realize that everyone else on this board live with this fear constantly in the private sector so I have been acting like a big baby.
But I do hate this shut down and the really danger precedents it is setting.

Thank you.
Besides, we have nothing to fight about anyway. It's just life in the fast lane.
Take care yourself,

How did Mencken put it?
"There is no man, who hasn't considered spitting on his hands, raising the black flag and beginning to slit throats."
It's just a natural reaction to the collective insanity of the homo sapiens.
Everybody gets pissed off from time to time.
I wouldn't get too down on myself. If you don't have a little fire in your belly, you ain't worth knocking in the head.

One of my wife's friends was abducted, raped and murdered. This happened many years ago, shortly after we were married. I tried very hard to try to figure out what motivated that sick SOB to do what he did. I could never see how one could reach that point.
It is a tasteless analogy to compare that with what is going on in Washington, but I truly believe that they are threatening to do something that will cause terrible suffering if they follow through with it. I do not understand the mindset that would find any partisan political goal worth that price.
Sorry to be a drama queen about it, but I see it that way. I'm not saying that anyone who supports the tea party is in favor of murder/rapists. But politics is becoming more and more bloodsport (or returning to it). I'm glad we can be nice to each other here.
Regards,
D-Ray

Don I am willing to bet that there will be innocent people die from this current insanity, but the guilty parties will get off scott free.

It appears to me that the Punch & Judy show is winding down for the moment, and the government will be funded. Thus we will be able to continue on the scenic route to insolvency.
Either way, that's where we're headed...unless we can some how find a new destination. At the moment, we're just buying time.
