He was still in the Senate when I got here, a fine gentleman who assisted Florence with some problem. He probably would be drummed from the GOP today, too honest and fair. Yeah I would like to see the back of Bartlett.

Yeah, ol' Roscoe's a prince! Just shows you what a little gerrymandering will do. Steele is a national joke, of course, and Bobby Ehrlich's former Lt. Gov. (no surprises there).

As I'm sure you'll recall, before Ehrlich was governor he was a US Congressman, part of Newt's "Class of '94" Contract on America gang of thugs.

What do you think of Van Hollen? As far as his national exposure is concerned I like what I see but I have no idea how he does in his district.

I've seen him speak a few times in person and he seems like a pretty upfront guy. He seems to have gotten into the national limelight fairly quickly for a young pup. I think part of what I like about him for a (semi)prominent MD politician is that he's not a part of the Baltimore political machine. As you may know, there's a certain animosity between the Montgomery County and Baltimore City wings of the MD Democratic party. MoCo is where the party's money comes from, but Balto is where the machine resides.

The fact that my Mother-in-Law likes him tells me all I need to know. I also wasn't too fond of the way he went about trying to sell off State forest lands on the sly to balance the budget. However, in comparison with the newest breed of GOP fire-breathers, he may even be considered a moderate. But I'm pretty sure he'd bend to the pressures brought to bear by the GOP if he were to serve again. I still don't know what the Democrats were thinking when they ran Kennedy-Townsend against him.
