Something I've never understood; I've gone without before, a couple of times. It drives me nuts and I worry constantly about getting injured or sick and having no way to pay.

But, I guess getting my chest split at 23 was a wake up call of sorts. "Young" means nothing when the tumor fairy comes to visit. Tumor Fairy don't give a shit how old you is or what you got to pay wit.

Maybe that's the way it works here.

I don't know, I've always paid the tab.

I have noticed one thing. If you start sending them a check every month, they will eventually give you the same discount that they give the insurance companies.

I was pretty unsettled after pay $400 for some plastic breathing apparatus which looked like a kid's toy. 25 years ago.

I also felt sorry for the guy who was buying something like a vibrating pussy or a rubber dick from a porn shop, marking them up 10X and selling them to the government for some sexual malady.

Hell, he wasn't any a bigger crook than the medical supply outfits. Or at least the billing department of the average hospital.

Chas

PS: Allow me to correct myself. It was a penis pump.

They want insurance.

and it is coming soon.

Like the old REM song it is the end of the world as we know it.

for the tea baggers

by the way the Altec Lansing Santana II is the worst sounding speaker I have ever owned the tweeter will split your brain open on most stuff unless it is jazz.

Those Klipsch Reference series speakers get no respect but they sound really nice.

IIRC, it's also a crappy cone tweeter. We were talking horns. Come on, Robbin. Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

I auditioned the top of the line RF7 once. Boomy bass.

Kind of reminds me of the assembly instructions to a Chinese swing set.

My point is, this is going into effect in five days. And this is some damned important legislation...it affects not only a person's pocket book, but their health as well.

And nobody really knows shit from beans about it.

Don't get me wrong. It's the law, and I'm willing to give it a fair shake...even though I think it's a shitty law and isn't being applied fairly.

I don't mind making a decision, just don't show up with thousands of dollars laying on the table and say do it now. And by the way, the rules may change tomorrow.

That kind of shit pisses me off, and for good reason.

Chas
It goes into effect on January 1st not in five days. I suggest you wait and see what is really happening. I still think your ins. agent full of shit if he hasn't told you that. Did you stick a rubber in his hero sammich?

The Altec horns are nice. I had a set of A7s once with the 511 horns and 902 Tangerines. Very nice. Even the 808-8a was nice and smooth, albeit a tad too rolled off on top for my taste.

Now, I run the Selenium 220ti blowing though PE waveguides. A lot of resonance, so I dampened the backside of the horns with that thick conduit putty...about 2lbs on each horn. Even then, there was a looooong break I period on the drivers.
After about 100 hours.........they sound very nice.

Dave
Econowaves?

I'm so lucky to have Kegger nearby. I've got a pair of Econowaves paired up with one of Kegs latest tube amp creations. Its the best sound I've ever had in this house.

Yeah. You've seen the pictures. And, yes, you are blessed to be in the vicinity of Audiokarma greatness. Takes the pain out of living in Detroit, I'd say.

What goes into effect in 5 days of course is the ability to purchase a regulated health plan through a regulated exchange.

Bob - I think what the exchanges will / won't do isn't the mystery that buying health insurance has become for employers whose groups health plans renew Jan 1 2014 and thereafter. Particularly for small employers, it's kind of crazy, and many brokers are struggling to wrap their heads around it.

While shared responsibility for employers got pushed off until 2015, the changes in underwriting practices for group health plans for groups of under 50 lives will take effect this coming January. Many employers are starting to see those renewals now, and for many employers they will be some of the largest premium increases they've ever seen due to the introduction of "community rating" by Obamacare. You've got brokers that are trying to get groups who typically renew on January 1 to consider renewing on Decemcer 1 so that they can renew under the "old" rules, but that just postpones the "inevitable" for a year.

I think this may be what Chas is describing, since it sounds like he's speaking to his broker as an employer, not an individual.

Myself, I'm as healthy as a mule. You can run over me with a fucking truck, give me a bottle of whiskey and a handful of Darvon, and I'll be at work the next day...even if I'm leaving a trail of blood on the ground.

Now my wife is different. She's been in for surgery three different times...once with fair insurance, once with lousy insurance, and once with no insurance.

Ain't too much difference between lousy insurance and no insurance. And fair insurance ain't too much to brag about.

Anyway, we paid everybody off, kept up poor for several years.

I do wish or betters on the hill were reduced to collecting so************************t security and buying health insurance just like every other swinging dick.

I'll bet they could damn well figure out a way to make it work then.

Chas
