We learned, the hard way, when my father reached his nineties and started having gall bladder problems that the existing medical establishment already has it's own form of "death panels". The doctors start using the phrase, "At his age.", a LOT. Insurance companies start balking at paying claims. Even the nurses start making faces when you ask them if he's getting his medication, or if they noticed something wrong. We just couldn't help but get the feeling they were all trying to let go of him, and I believe they did. It's sad, but true.
You know, I had a conversation with one of my cousins about this. He started to say, "Well, if the federal government takes over.....". I interrupted with, "My point is that it's already being done with the system as it is. Why can't you see that? And besides aren't you one of those people who supports Tort Reform because you think it too easy for people to sue the medical industry as it is? So, what exactly would change in a world run YOUR way?" He glared at me for a second, then turned his head and walked away. Just so you have the whole picture, my cousin is a prominent businessman who has toyed with the idea of running for office--Republican, of course.
Now, if you'll pardon me, I have dog shit to scoop up.
