That's probably true, my guns are mostly used for hunting as they were
designed. I've only scared off one armed robber in my lifetime. But, we
can't have every average Barbara out there running around with attack dogs.

Two weeks ago I witnessed two young boys break into my neighbors house. I went down there and stopped them in their tracks. (No, no guns were involved.) While I was walking over there (about 30 seconds), my wife called 911. She reported a break in in progress. She did not specify the ages of the intruders. Even though the crime was in progress, it was still over 40 minutes before the two sheriffs got there.
There are times when you have to take care of business yourself. Help is too far away. The police today fill out reports of crimes much more often than they prevent them. You decide for yourself and your family how you want to be able to protect yourself. I have.

From your study...
"Determine the relative frequency with which guns in the home are used to injure or kill in self-defense, compared with the number of times these weapons are involved in an unintentional injury, suicide attempt, or criminal assault or homicide."
Note ""Injure" or "kill"
From Kleck and Gertz, "Armed Resistance to Crime," at 173, 185
2.5 million times citizens use their guns to defend themselves every year, the overwhelming majority merely brandish their gun or fire a warning shot to scare off their attackers. Less than 8% of the time, a citizen will kill or wound his/her

In Cleveland sometimes the police don't even bother to show up. But, citizens should not be allowed to provide the security the police won't?

I always like these fun facts Pete.
"Armed citizens kill more crooks than do the police. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606)"
Philip J. Cook and Jens Ludwig, "Guns in America: National Survey on Private Ownership and Use of Firearms,
And readers of Newsweek learned that "only 2 percent of civilian shootings involved an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal. The 'error rate' for the police, however, was 11 percent, more than five times as high."
George F. Will, "Are We 'a Nation of Cowards'?," Newsweek (15 November 1993):93.

Still doesn't change the fact that firearms in the home cause more death and injury to friends and family than intruders.
