I like weapons. I've been gun owner, a hunter and competitive shooter in the past but the sorts of weapons and magazines we're talking about here are designed to kill large numbers of people as quickly and efficiently as possible. There is no sane reason for allowing them in civilian hands and little reason to permit their use in law enforcement other than the fact that the bad guys have them too.

I agree, My folding stock, Czech manufactured, AK-47 is a fun weapon to shoot. It has no purpose other than to kill people. With several two 30 round mags taped together an experienced shooter can rip off hundreds of rounds, in a matter of minutes, in the full auto mode. It takes about 15 minutes to convert it to a true machine gun.

It is in my brothers possession now. He is a retired Special Forces Ranger and lives way out in the Ozark woods. I figure it is safer there than being in a highly populated area prone to being stolen. It is a wicked weapon. If the Russians had gotten that weapon out before 1944 WWII would have ended much faster.

I store my pistols in a safe at the range. I have a single .25 caliber 1930's Sauer and Shon auto pistol in the night stand. Break into my house, when I am home, and find out how fast that little pistol, that can be concealed in your hand, can kill you. I am pretty accurate up to 25 feet with it. When I see a lot of police activity around the house I keep it at my side.

Awesome.

But the US government must be used to save people from themselves.

So what have all these guns really gotten you? Safer streets? Nope. Less worry? Nope - Americans are likely the most paranoid people I have ever met when it comes to safety. Protection from the government stealing your rights and freedoms? Again, fail. Likely the biggest single attack on your rights and freedoms happened during the Bush administration, and the gun loving, government hating contingent voted him back in.

Yeah when I got up this morning I tripped over my AR-15 on the way to the shower.

First of all one has to be propely trained to use an semi- automatic firearm. I am sure she had no idea how to use an AR-15.
Second, even if you are trained you better be ready to shoot at whatever target you aim that weapon at, or you will be dead.
Third, the home invaders had the element of surprise. An AR-15 is useless if you are asleep. Now if she had a watch posted in her living room maybe she would have stopped them. How many people post an armed guard at night in their living room? You see in the military you do not just have weapons you have armed sentries to protect you.

Wasn't James Bond's Walther PPK a .25 cal. ACP? At close range and in good hands a .25 caliber is plenty.
