That is weak, even for you. Of course, we shouldn't have expected that if anyone was going to provide a straight answer to that question, it was going to be you. Nevertheless, if it is really your opinion that the tea party wants to freeze social security benefits, you ought to go to a rally and tell the participants (90% of whom appear to be senior citizens) that you think that. Just let me know when, because I would like to watch.

We already froze Soc Sec benefits for a year under Obama. He also threatened to freeze it again in 2011. I don't recall gangs of gray-haired militants taking to the streets.

Of course, if anyone is going to miss the point of my post, it might be you. So let me be clear:

The Tea Party followers, and this is about the only way they were similar, were like the OWS crowd in one respect: different folks had different motivations to join in. There were some central themes, however. Like getting our fiscal house in order. Rejecting Obamacare. Like Biden in 1984, no more piling on of government debt via dubious government spending on things like the so called Stimulus. These are ideas that at one time resonated with many Democrats, as reflected in Biden's comments. His comments also demonstrate that the party the Joe Biden was part of in 1984 has moved very far to the left of where Joe was when he made those statements.

I respectfully disagree. We are at a far different place than we were in '84 thanks in part to Bush's spending free for all and the great recession. I also disagree that we've shifted left at all, it's actually been towards the center. Maybe it's just a matter of perspective for you because the Republicans have shifted so much farther to the right? I hate to tell you but the '80's were a long, long time ago.

The stimulus was/is a lot of different things, what parts of it do you object to?

There are a few highway projects going on in my neck of the woods that have signs proclaiming some govspeak, "Reinvesting in America!" The auto bailout? That was a loan wasn't it? We got a big stake in GM for our dollars, didn't we? Will we get it all back in a strict accounting sense? I doubt it. I hate the fact that we didn't get any voting stock but whaddya gonna do? The bank bailouts? I remember my bank crowing about paying their loan back, that would be Bank of America. I'm not saying everything is hunky dory, that will happen when and if we see 5% unemployment. There's still a lot of work to do to dig ourselves out of this hole we are in.

I recall returning from a road trip to Kansas to see my crazy brother in September of 2009. A co worker asked me how the trip went. Among the many things I said about the trip, I commented that "...I saw those reinvestment act signs in several spots along the way...." Under his breath, he mumbled, "F**k that s*it anyway.".

Bob, to some people it doesn't matter what the government does, bad or otherwise. Their answer will always be "F**k that s*it anyway."

(BTW, one of those projects was the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway in Illinois...)

Yeah, it is kind of funny how those stimulus dollars went to toll roads, must've been the part that Bush and assoc. dreamt up.
