The fact that so many people are clinging onto a very small band of scientists who, for what ever reason, are denying that climate change is real, is a real testament to this Churchill quote.
One thing we as a society are all too good at, it's burying our heads in the sand deeper and deeper the worse things get until finally, the truth has to be faced. I'm just glad I didn't have children. Becasue it seems we're doomed as long as bottom line profits are our primary motivation.

Hey Pete I grew up about 35 miles from you.....I just do not remember tornado watches or warnings in early spring...in my memory it was usually in high summer. The recent ones were in March of this year...
I am I wrong? I did not take note of such things back then but to me tornadoes in the mid-west were a summer phenomenon.

Yes that is my recollection too. I also recall winters being much colder, at least snow on the ground most through the winter, which is very unusual now. Also at least one severe thunderstom with branch lightning, again, rare now.
I like to say, they'll be palm trees in Cleveland
Pete

A prime example of the global climate change model. We have had a string of weather here were temps are 15 to 20 degrees above normal since May. We are shattering the hi temps of the 1954 drought here. This is going on in 70% of the country.
Kiss low food prices goodbye. I recommend you stock up on food now will prices are still low. For two years the fields in the Arkansas river valley delta have produced damn near no corn or soy beans. I suspect next year farmers will let the ground go fallow. What is the point of planting if it never rains.
Beef prices will go down as farmers sell off stock because they can't feed them. The Winter hay is almost gone. The field are dead stalks of grass and dirt. Get a freezer and stock up. Prices for meat will soar once the over supply is gone.
I am glad you are enjoying the cool temps and rain in a state that is not used to it. But, don't think for a minute that the drought problems in the food belt, of this country, won't affect your wallet.

What I'm reading is it's the worst drought since 1956. And, if you notice, the media doesn't report the actual temperatures, but the heat index.
Come on guys, even I can remember it being more bastardly...and I'm only 58 yrs old.
As far as I'm concerned...if you want to beat the Global Warming drum....what about 1956????

Dayum Charlie, 58? Like I can talk at 55.. This season keeps breaking all sorts of old records except out here on the left coast. This summer is the coolest I've seen in many, many years. Not braggin' cause I really feel for all of you cooking this summer in the midwest and east. This drought is going to kill us at the grocery store. It looks really friggin' bad with a lot of farmers discing their crops under.
Been drowning any worms lately? I'm waiting for the warm water to creep on up from Mexico due to the El Nino effect. Imagine mahi mahi (dolphinfish) off the coast here in socal. Those mofos love to jump and will hit anything you throw at 'em!

Muller's research is much better with better methodologies IMNSHO than most previous research. Of course, still up for debate is what, if anything, can be done about it. There are very real political and economic constraints that are transnational and not likely to be solved any time soon.
BTW, the July 2012 paper in pdf is a good read for those with an interest in science. The other nice thing is that it appears that Muller's group has all the data and methods open for perusal.

My gripe was not whether or not global warming occurred, but rather the sloppiness of Mann's overly hyped conclusions. It is also evident that, contrary to the Gore gang, the earth is not necessarily going to be destroyed by the lack of immediate action. The UN, Hollywood, political grandstanders, and excitable environmentalists are not the folks to produce a rational course of action. Our collective advanced culture, even in the US with the luxury of perhaps being able to slightly curtail energy use, will not accept a future that is predicated on less energy availability.
Here's a ranked list of polluting countries. Though I was somewhat surpised at Australia being number one in per capita emissions, I still do not put much credence in the fairness/justice argument surrounding the carbon allocation problem.

I think you are right when you say our culture will not accept a future with less energy availability.........and, therein is the crux of the issue. We have become selfish and short sighted as a society. Chances are that the long term impact of global warming won't impact our lives, so, why should we worry.
