An interesting fact on man's effects on the environment. PBS's show Nova had a show on something might of been about haze in the atmosphere. Funny thing happened right after 911 when the air traffic was down for days. Due to the drastically reduced exhaust in the upper atmosphere the temps actually rose due to the clearing skies.
Their conclusion was that if we stopped the pollution temps would rise even faster.
Just adding more reasons for the Right to say "lets keep polluting"!

Like the "adopt a highway project".... Each group could have its designated cubic mile of air to clean. They could even put up a sign.
There, I did it for ya, Pete.

Yes.
And,
Cutting carbon emssions is an attack on the poor?
How so? What? It drives up the cost of tacos, so they don't fart as much? That's ridiculous.
Please.

Anything you do to cut emissions costs more. My dad, who oversaw construction on coal powerplant emission systems among other things, says getting 99% of pollutants out is pretty easy, but chipping away at the 1% left gets progessively difficult - and expensive.
Here's the rub: you'll never get 100%. As I say, stopgap. Eventually the earth will be used up and worn out.
And, as long as the sign is cool

Still doesn't explain how curbing emissions is an attack on the poor, Pete.

The point was, it can be done. We are not the victims you make us out to be.
Take some personal responsibility. :-)

Well, much like an ID to vote hurts the poor, there are many "hidden" fees that go along. Emissions testing on vehicles every where(not just Metro areas), this will mean newer cars or fixing up those old ones. This will only burden the less fortunate driving those old vehicles, the emissions test on the vehicle will be an added expense in and of it's self.....there are a couple of easy low hanging examples.....
And before you come with both feet, I'm all for reducing emissions. Just a simple fact that it will drive up costs on the less fortunate.

Sorry Rex but equating depriving any one of their lawful right to vote to requiring motorists not drive a gross polluting vehicle?

Well, then so be it, Rex. If we base what we can do in this regard, on whether or not the least fortunate among us can afford it, how far will we get?
So, we find a low cost way to accomodate the poor folk, I guess. I'm not suggesting anything extreme....I'm certainly not going to advocate buying them cars. But, perhaps this is where better public transportation comes in? I dunno.
The point is, this is another thing that needs rational discussion. Not one side trying to buy them Escalades and the other refusing to do anything.
See what I'm sayin'?

The answer is space my friend Move pollution to space.
