If I might reinforce Dondillion's position, consider this. Would you consider for Sarah Palin or Micchelle Bachman for President? Whatever choice you would make there, would you consider yourself one of the independent voters that is "in play" in every presidential election?

Bachman would have no national prominence but for her exposure through the Tea Party. Sarah had national recognition when the Tea Party came around, but she used the Tea Party affiliation to enhance her status within the party as a power broker. Her spiel certainly plays best to the tea party. Both Bachman and Palin would be absolutely dependent on the Tea Party element of the GOP to win the nomination. In that sense, the Tea Party would be delivering one who I consider unelectable in the general election. It is in that way that the Tea Party harms the GOP, God bless 'em.
