It takes decades to change a culture. You have to start working on the grandparents with things like allowing teachers to lead prayer in the classroom, adding "under God" to the pledge, the Red Scares of the 1950s and all that. 60-70 years later, you'll have the right wingers we have today, who think they're on a permanent holy mission to save America from..........their fellow Americans. Who see gay marriage, TGBTQ rights and such as unholy abominations, harbingers of doom that threaten to destroy America. Commies in every closet, as it were.

What's truly amusing is that these people distrust government and warn the rest of us that the government is trying to manipulate our minds when virtually everything they believe, all of this phony religiosity, flag waiving, "Christian Nation", America does no wrong, never lost a war hullabaloo was put there by.....the government.

A man once recently tried to convince me that the military, law enforcement and the federal government are all separate things. "One has nothing to do with the other.", he says. He doesn't see the connections. "The police exist to protect us from tyrannical government.", I was told.
