Where did the conservatives go? Cancel culture is trying to disapear them. I believe both sides should be free to state their case and the truth can percolate to the top. But when people are being cancelled, banned, etc. simply because some people "in control" don't like what they are saying, those doing the banning/cancelling are exposing their fear of the ideas of others.
I've been on a LOT of forums since 1997 and, until last year, was a member in good standing on a lot of sites. Nothing in my MO changed, but because they didn't like what I was saying or my links, I've been banned from five. That's all. They simply didn't like what I was saying. A simple example: Mentioning Ivermectin's success was considered "dangerous", so I was banned on one site.
The video below actually sums up what was really going on in political forums and other venues a LOT at the time it was created. The right "owned" the internet. The quantity of ad-hom foisted on conservatives when they would try to give valid arguments became downright comical. In fact, one site that was very much like this one - mostly free for all and mostly leftist - made a rule change: No ad-hominem.
Within a couple of months over half the leftists were permabanned. Some on the right were too, but the site became much more balanced. The smart/old ones on the left learned to avoid personal attacks. The younger ones just couldn't help themselves. Emotion eventually ruled their responses.
So "trolling" became against the rules. And what is trolling? If I post something like my thread this morning from American Thinker, some will argue that it is "trolling", simply because people disagree with it and feel they are being "trolled". I suppose that would be true if you walked into a BLM meeting and said "all lives matter", or walked into a KKK meeting and said, "black lives matter". But this site is not BLM or the KKK. It is supposed to be a bit more free thinking than that, and open to ideas by all sides, where those ideas are allowed to stand or fall by their veracity.
And if one side destroys their position with constant ad-hominem attacks, well, those people are sending a message as well - but they don't realized the message they are sending is about themselves, not those they are attacking.

This video predates cancel culture. In some ways, it is prophetic.
