The most important drivers for business success aren't slogans and promises, but innovations that first surprise and then delight the customer. The state is the be-all and end-all for political parties, but for businesses, it's just one option among many. That's the big difference: parties like the SPD and CDU only have Germany. A corporation like BASF can simply leave.
That's exactly what's happening these days. We're witnessing a silent departure. Europe's largest chemical conglomerate is investing ten billion dollars in a new large-scale Chinese plant and closing parts of its production in Ludwigshafen. They're hiring new staff in China and saying goodbye to parts of their core German workforce.
