As for Germany, I am a big fan of German cars and I do not see any other country coming close to VW (Audi, Porsche), BMW, MBZ in personal cars.

Since you mention Democratic party I think I can squeeze under the title of the thread.
For some time now US energy voices have been bellyaching over the fact that Europe especially Germany has been importing large quantities of Russian energy. They felt that the US deserves a good piece of the action in view of US involvement in the defense of Europe re Russia.
Russian invasion of Ukraine gave substance to said view.
Some entity blew up Nordstream and Ukraine now cuts off the Russian transit.
The US export to Europe serves mainly 3 purposes.
1) Expansion of US energy industry.
2) Providing some relief for the Europeans at a critical juncture.
3) Providing alternatives to the Russians thus denying them a measure of income for their military.
So there is a huge geopolitical dimension to energy export which has united Biden, Trump and Ted Cruz.
