We've had the "War To End All Wars" from 1914 to 1918. That led directly to WWII and the Holocaust to which we all cried, "Never again!" But that was followed by the Killing Fields of Cambodia, the Rwandan genocide and the ghettoization of black South Africans and Palestinians in Israel/Palestine.

Polyanna and Scarlet O'Hara notwithstanding, today's atrocity sows the seeds for tomorrow's atrocity.
