Interesting.
So they changed the packaging, got good press and will be selling more candy than ever in one package.
This now makes perfect sense now. The OP missed this obviously.

This must be the overreach all the Tea Party people are so upset about....I hate to see how mad they will get when Ryan reduces Medicare coverage....

Whoa, the left really thinks Michelle is ineffective at best, covering for big business at worst?

Ready to say goodbye to a sliver of your Snickers? And how about a slightly slimmer Mars bar? By the end of 2013, chocolate-maker Mars says all of its chocolate bars will be under — or right at — the 250-calorie mark.
The 2-ounce Snickers currently sold in our NPR vending machine has 280 calories, and with the downsize it will lose about 11 percent of its size. The fun-size and the king-size bars currently range from 70 to 540 calories, which means the new 250-calorie limit spells the end of the king-size bar.
The company tells The Salt it will be replaced with bags of two or four smaller bars. The idea is to "enable sharing or saving a portion for later," according to a Mars spokesperson.

Well, I was close, save a portion for later lol.

It seems to me that the candy company freely made a choice to alter its product line.

Going from 280 to 250 calories sounds like a price increase to me. A well disguised price increase.

There's a slogan!
I don't mind 1st ladies doing things like this. I remember Nancys' 'Just Say No' thing, mostly because, when trying to pass various things, a friend at the time would get an earnest serious look on his face and say, 'Just Say Yes'

No one forced Mars to do anything. They made a decision that will, in the end, result in bigger profits. At the same time they get a lot of free publicity and advertising, some from the outraged as evidenced here, and some from folks who agree with the program. Mars wins either way.
I can't believe I am posting about a fricking candy bar.

The "Just Say No" campaign which started the war on drugs has done a hell of a lot more damage to this country than the First Ladies attempts to get kids and adults to eat healthier.
