CINCINNATI (AP) — A University of Cincinnati officer who shot a motorist during a traffic stop over a missing front license plate has been indicted on murder charges, a prosecutor said Wednesday, adding that the officer "purposely killed him" and "should never have been a police officer."

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters announced the grand jury indictment at a news conference to discuss developments in the investigation into the July 19 shooting of 43-year-old motorist Samuel DuBose by Officer Ray Tensing.

Authorities have said Tensing spotted a car driven by DuBose and missing the front license plate, which is required by Ohio law. They say Tensing stopped the car and a struggle ensued after DuBose refused to provide a driver's license and get out of the car.

Tensing has said he was dragged by the car and forced to shoot at DuBose. He fired one shot, striking DuBose in the head.

But Deters dismissed Tensing's claim that he was dragged by the car and suggested that he shouldn't have pulled DuBose over to begin with.

"He fell backward after he shot (DuBose) in the head," Deters said, adding that it was a "chicken crap" traffic stop.

This is the body cam video. Nothing of interest until 3:09, when the officer first calls in that he's making a traffic stop. Gunshot comes at 5:57, after the officer has reached into the car and the subject responded by putting the vehicle in motion.

Obviously, a missing front license plate or even driving without a license do not justify apprehending the subject with deadly force. The question is, was the officer's life imperiled by the subject's resistance and moving of the car? Was deadly force a reasonable and legal response to subject's resistance?

I understand that a moving vehicle could imperil the officer's life, but did it in this case? And even if so, was deadly force the only effective response available?

You know ironically I am in favor of requiring both a front and rear tag. I think it's a good idea. But it should be a nationwide requirement and it should be enforced universally. Might piss off these bubbas that like their confederate flag front tags, but fuck them.

What I am against however is the Police using selective enforcement of minor traffic rules as an excuse to profile certain types of individuals. And from the statistical data on whose getting stopped for what and how often it is obvious that this is going on in a big way.

CNN records search showed that Dubose had more than 60 arrests. He was a father to 13 children, according to CNN affiliate WKRC-TV.

And he hands the cop a wine bottle when asked for his license.

Precisely. Having a dozen+ kids and so many prior arrests may make someone a scumbag.......

But it does not warrant a unilateral death sentence. Cops I snot an instant judge and jury.
