Air America goes belly up
Do you care and does it matter?

I don't and it doesn't. Liberals are, by definition, free thinking. They're not likely to self identify as "ditto heads".

My hats off to them. I have no earthly idea how they managed to stay up and running as long as they did.
As a matter of fact, I had no idea that they were even around anymore.

No and no.
Air America did get liberal talk off the ground (20 years too late) but they never had a reasonable business model. Among other things they set up a 24/7 programming schedule and wanted their affiliates to run the whole thing. Few stations were willing to take the gamble and who can blame them?
They did help give Rachel Maddow the exposure she needed to move on and Randi Rhodes (ugh!) had her first national gig with them but by and large the successful progressive talkers never worked for them or, in the case of Thom Hartmann, came to them after he already had an audience and left after he put his own syndication together.

Never listened, to Air America.
Gave up talk radio a long time ago, used to be a "Dittohead" believe it or not. Then one day it occured to me that I might see things more clearly if I shut the damn radio off. About a month later I turned it back on, and there was Rush Limbaugh. It took maybe three minutes and I said to myself; "God, this guy is an asshole." That was around 1996 or so, and every now and then I poke in for a listen. They're still assholes, only there's more of them now, and their even on t.v..

Never listened to it, I prefer straight news programming to radio OpEd. For the same reason I avoid the likes of Krauthammer, Will, Gleason and the rest. The good Lord gave me a working brain so I do not need anyone to tell what I believe.

no it does not matter.
Culturally the left does not lend itself to the same nihilistic tribal war rituals as does the right.
This is a central difference between the two. The right is hell bent on not moving into the future, much as the extreme Moslem's.
Be honest, when you hear Rush and hear is followers chanting his expressions of blind hate don't you just envision a tribe of american Indians dancing around the fire in war paint?
